Overcoming
Men's Hair Loss and Male Pattern Baldness

Men's  hair loss is a common condition, occurring in approximately one-third of all men worldwide.

Male hair loss and male pattern baldness  can be corrected with appropriate male hair loss restoration or replacement solutions.  Preventing hair loss can be achieved with several different remedies ranging from non-surgical hair replacement, laser hair therapy, or hair transplants.

MEN'S HAIR LOSS and MALE PATTERN BALDNESS
(Androgenic Alopecia)

Men's hair loss and going bald is a fact of life for millions of men.  Significant male pattern baldness affects the lives of well over one-half of adult men worldwide.

There are many possible causes of male hair loss, however the man who experience hair loss usually finds that it is part of his individual genetic makeup.

We hope the following information will help you better understand the particular type of hair loss you may be experiencing, and which hair replacement or restoration treatment options may be indicated for your individual situation.

TYPES OF MALE HAIR LOSS

ANDROGENETIC ALOPECIA is the modem medical term for the most common cause of hair loss and balding in men.  It represents close to 95% of all male hair loss and can be broken down in two parts:

First, Androgenetic, consisting of ANDROGEN (Any of the various hormones that control the appearance and development of masculine characteristics such as testosterone).

Male pattern baldness, early onset causes

And GENETIC--the inheritance of genes from either the mother or the father's side of the family.

ADD AGE, which when coupled with genetics, represents a time clock that will signal the hair follicle to produce an enzyme named 5 alpha reductase. When the testosterone present in the follicle combines with the enzyme 5 alpha reductase, it produces dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Hair follicle receptors are sensitive to DHT and thereby start the process of male or female pattern hair loss.

OTHER CAUSES FOR HAIR LOSS IN MEN

  • Alopecia areata: Generally thought to be an autoimmune disorder. Causes "patchy" hair loss, often in small circular areas in different areas of the scalp.

  •  Alopecia totalis: Total hair loss of the scalp, (an advanced form of alopecia areata).

  • Alopecia universalis: Hair loss of the entire body, (also an advanced form of alopecia areata).

A CURE FOR BALDNESS?

With all the hair loss causes in men, we may not see a cure in our lifetime.  It may be possible. Science is closer to understanding it much better due to a variety of recent advancements.

UNTIL THEN...

Since there are other causes of baldness in men, it is advisable to consult with a competent, experienced dermatologist.
